How therapy works

My goal is to create a safe space for you to explore the issues with which you’re struggling. I will help you uncover what’s contributing to your experience of suffering. Together, we will explore and understand the connection between your thoughts, actions, emotions, and how your body responds. I will invite you to look for glimpses of your strengths, so that you can use them to be successful and reach your goals. I will be transparent about the therapeutic process, and encourage you to pursue tangible change.

Your collaboration is absolutely essential for therapy to be successful. With the guidance of your expertise in your unique lived experience, I will share tools and techniques that have been validated by research, invite you to try them, and encourage you to keep using the ones that work for you.

This process is inevitably painful, and it is also transformative. I will be by your side to support you as you face your challenges and experiment with new approaches to life. With your willingness to implement and practice strategies on an ongoing basis, you will start seeing changes in your experience. And then, as time goes on, you’ll notice that what once seemed impossible, has become your new way of being and behaving.

I will celebrate your gains, help you look for signs that your treatment is working, and be open to your feedback about anything that needs to be adjusted. Ultimately, I will rejoice with you when you notice beneficial, productive changes in your thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

In-person therapy

In-person sessions are available and take place at 2010 Winston Park Drive. The office is located at Upper Middle Road East and Winston Park Drive, close to the 403 and the QEW (across from Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill & VIP).

Free parking is available all around the building. If you book an in-person session, please plan your arrival with sufficient time to park, find the office upstairs and start your session on time.

The office is equipped with all necessary materials for a safe, confidential and productive session. I will invite you to share your feedback about your level of comfort, and do my best to adjust the space to your needs.

Before your session starts, you will have the option to turn on a sound machine inside the office for an added layer of privacy.

Online therapy

Online sessions are also available, and take place from the comfort of your home, or private space of your choice, through the Jane App. During online appointments, both you and I share the responsibility of making sure that the session is confidential and safe.

Due to the nature of therapy, it is likely that you will feel emotional during virtual appointments. You may be surprised by your emotional response once we start talking about sensitive topics related to the circumstances that led you to seek therapeutic services. This is one of the reasons that makes it unsafe to have online sessions in a public setting, with other people around, or while travelling (by car, public transportation, etc.).

In order for you to have a safe and productive online session, make sure that you are in a private location with a reliable internet connection, with access to your device, as well as headphones. Feel free to visit the Jane App’s guide on how to join your online appointment for further information.

If your circumstances require that you attend your online session in your car, make sure that your vehicle is parked and turned off. I will not provide your online session if you choose to drive during your appointment.
